Five Soldiers killed in 24 Hours in Eastern Ukraine

Five Ukrainian soldiers were killed in 24 hours in eastern Ukraine separatist bringing to 1,052 people total losses of the Ukrainian army since the beginning of hostilities in April, announced Tuesday a Ukrainian military spokesman.

“Five soldiers were killed and ten others wounded,” said Andrii Lysenko.

Three of the five victims were killed in fighting near the village of Berezove, southwest of the city of Donetsk, the airport which is a hot that troops loyal to Kiev and separatists are fighting for months points, -t he added.

The circumstances in which other soldiers were killed or injured were not released.

Since the beginning of hostilities in April 1052 Ukrainian military have died, said Mr. Lysenko.

The situation in the East declined sharply after holding separatist Nov. 2 elections that helped undermine the peace process in September.

These days, large convoys of heavy weapons, including tanks and trucks were seen by AFP journalists, making movement to the city.

Confirmed by OSCE observers responsible for verifying the implementation of the cease-fire on September 5, now moribund, the influx of reinforcements fears the resurgence of total war in the region.
