1. British Columbia: The McBarge

The McBarge was constructed for Expo ’86. Its sole purpose was to show off the latest design and tech at that time.
The high-tech McBarge encompassed panoramic views, tasteful art, garden rooms, and its main attraction was its hidden kitchen, having a conveyor belt that was used to deliver hot fries and burgers to the serving counter. The McBarge was linked to a new marketing plan founded regarding “affordable elegance”— therefore, the classy floating bistro touch.

At the end of exhibition, the idea was to get the the restaurant floating to some new place, permitting people to relish their Quarter Pounders in the soothing atmosphere of open water, but the idea was never brought to reality. The restaurant spent more than 30 years anchored, an abandoned and detested relic, offshore in Burrard Inlet, in British Columbia. However, the world is soon going to see a nice change, as Howard Meakin, the owner of the McBarge, has carried the boat to Maple Ridge. This is the place where the restaurant is experiencing a multi-million dollar renovation. Meakin has not yet disclosed any further details. So, Stay tuned for any upcoming news.

2. Austria: The Murinsel Cafe

This floating artificial platform is located in the center of the Mur River. Vito Acconci, a New York artist, made its design on the event of Graz becoming the European Cultural Capital in 2003. The building depicts a form of a huge sea shell, measuring 154ft in length. 2 footbridges link it with 2 banks of the Mur. The midpoint of the platform creates an arena, and the cafe is a delightful location to enjoy a cocktail or drink coffee.

3. Kentucky: The Waterfront

There are some floating eateries that face numerous bad lucks that they simply cannot overcome. The Waterfront is a creation that couldn’t manage to resist the misfortunes.
“We were smashed by runaway charges. We were struck by a tugboat. We were hit by a huge iceberg,” said Jeff Ruby, the owner. “I nearly lost a worker during this hit.” At last in, he lost the restaurant when it descended into the River of Ohio. It is said that a barge hit the restaurant some 2 weeks earlier that made it to drown.

Ruby intends to re-launch his waterfront restaurant, but by now, it will be situated on land. He says that it is quite romantic to enjoy a dinner in a floating restaurant but it is not safe in any case. Therefore, just keeping yourself limited to enjoying the view is far better.

4. Wilmington: The Chowder Barge

The Chowder Barge was constructed in 1934 as a backing vessel for the movie Mutiny on the Bounty. In order to keep it floating, ferro cement was used to dock it permanently in 1974. This floating restaurant is situated among the many powerboats and sailboats in LA Harbor. There are two options to reach the restaurant, you can ride up to the dock which is the place where Chowder Barge is situated or run a dinghy or small boat to reach the guest dock to start your dining experience.
The barge is a most preferred filming place in the present and past films like Inherent Vice, Sunken City, Wanted, Sons of Anarchy and Dexter, all have been shot in Chowder Barge.

5. Hong Kong: Jumbo Kingdom

From 1976, Jumbo Kingdom is among the top tourist attractions of Hong Kong. This floating restaurant is anchored in the center of Aberdeen Harbor. The restaurant’s design is inspired from a Chinese palace. It is among the largest restaurants of the world; having the capacity to house around 2,300 diners in a multi-faceted compound, including a gourmet restaurant and a tea garden, serving first-class old-style Chinese and contemporary fusion dishes.

6. Dubai: The Rustar Floating Restaurant

Situated in Dubai Creek, The Rustar is ranked among the largest floating restaurants in the world. The Rustar Floating Restaurant houses around 400 guests and it comprises of all the essential elements to make your evening a most memorable experience. This dinner cruise contains five-star entrees, a full-service bar, top score live entertainment. You can even enjoy Henna painting while relaxing among the skillfully handcrafted teak adornments of the cruise.

7. India: Veli Lake Floating Restaurant

Let us now share some words about scenic Veli Lake located in Kerala. It is a remarkable natural magnetism that streams exactly into the Arabian Sea. It is a whole floating village in the center of the lake which can only be accessed by a sequence of bridges. The Veli Lake Floating Restaurant is linked to this compound and is attached to the village with its personal small floating bridge. The seated affair of dinner is accompanied with a variety of spicy dishes of the area equipped with locally manufactured products.

8. British Columbia: C Restaurant

Another restaurant from British Columbia in our list is C Restaurant. Vancouver possesses a special charm for floating eateries. This restaurant was constructed on a trash bed—almost 1700 plastic bottles were used as the base of this sensualist restaurant. The formation included 6 courses of top-quality organic food combined with biodynamic wines and a spectacular sight while floating on the bounties of artistic engineering.
Viaggio Hospitality Group purchased the C in after and since then the scenic restaurant has closed its operations. It is said that the group is intended to build a larger eatery on the same site. While we are not sure what is going to happen in the area where the C was situated, but we will update you if any fresh floating establishment replaces the C.
