One Of The Most Wanted Fugitive Arrested In Greece

Christodoulos Xiros, 56, was arrested near Athens on Saturday, a year after escaping from prison. The fugitive was serving a life sentence for being the henchman of the Greek far-left organization of 17-November.

A former member of the Greek armed revolutionary movement that had threatened to commit new attacks was arrested Saturday, January 3, near Athens, police said. The man had escaped from prison there is a year where he was serving a life sentence.

Christodoulos Xiros , 56, was arrested at midday in a common south of the Greek capital, Anavyssos, where he had rented a flat in recent months, said the investigators during a press conference.

He was arrested while riding a bicycle, he had changed his appearance wearing long hair, a goatee, glasses and had a loaded gun on him 14 balls, said General Dimitrios Tsaknakis Chief Greek police.
The Minister of Citizen Protection Vassilis Kikilia commended the work of the police to arrest a terrorist.

The fugitive did not resist, the sources said. Pictures of the police now show the blonde with long hair bleached, while brown with short hair on the last known images.

Xiros had not returned to his cell early in January after a permission granted while serving multiple life imprisonment. He was sentenced for being the henchman of the Greek far-left organization of 17-November. Dissolved in 2002, the small group had claimed 23 murders between 1975 and 2000, including that of the CIA station chief in Athens, Richard Welch.

The Greek authorities were particularly mobilized as Christodoulos Xiros seemed active again: his DNA was found on an explosive device received in May in a police station in Itea (center).

It was also reappeared fortnight after his escape in a video posted on the Internet, warning that he would make thunder again his rebellious weapon against those who have stolen our lives and have sold our dreams.

The fugitive was taken to the services of the anti-terrorist police.
