Pakistan Allows YouTube Version with ‘Blasphemy’ Censorship Controls
The most famous and liked social media website YouTube has now been unblocked in Pakistan after a long time of Three years. The only reason why this has happened is because the website has provided Pakistani government a version that can censor contents of own choice.
PTA (Pakistan telecommunication authority) recommended Government of Pakistan to permit the access and usage of YouTube through newly launched version. Google has also offered a process with the help of which PTA has rights of easily and directly block the contents containing offending matter for the users of Pakistan.
As of the YouTube is concerned its authorities say that no one cannot “filter content” as they want to! After that “Human Rights activists” demanded the particulars of it.
Authorities of YouTube replied to it in the following manner: they said that no country can “automatically” remove any content they want to.
A spokeswomen of company said, “There are complete guidelines, if videos break those rules, we eliminate those videos,” and “countries where we launched YouTube only for them and they came across a video which is illegal in their country, then we limit that video to them after a complete analysis.”
When YouTube was blocked by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), PTA demanded the removal of those “blasphemous” contents. It was due to the “non-Islamic objectionable video”
But reporters without borders said “PTA is not capable of ordering such kind of blocking,” and they added:
Courts should take such kind of decisions; it shouldn’t be in the control of government. This is same as why do people upload videos on social media, they should not be permitted to do so if the idea of sharing an idea is not respected.
But where is the respect every religion thought? If reporters without borders can speak like that then why can’t the reporters of Pakistan? Government of Pakistan acted what they believe according to their belief and religion. Why it took a long period of three years for YouTube to act on this.
In 2005 when a Denish newspaper Jyllands-Posten printed the cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Pakistani government took safety measures for the first time and then the Supreme Court was compelled to see in this and take actions.
The images of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) were blasphemous.
