Calvin Johnson told Lions he plans to retire
Calvin Johnson, nickname “Megatron” is the wide receiver in Detroit Lions of American Football (NFL) National Football League.
He signed an 8 year extension contract with Lions in 2012, worth of US$132 million, which is one of the largest contracts of sports of all time.
Johnson has told his friends and family that he is going to retire after-16 season from NFL. He told the same thing to his coach Jim Caldwell one day after his session concluded.
According to ESPN sources, Caldwell advised Johnson to take some time and re-think; there is no rush to decide and Johnson agreed with his coach.
The team has not given up on Johnson and think that he will change his mind but a close friend of his who know Johnson well said that, “He’s is satisfied with his judgment quite well”
Next year Johnson will be of 31 years old and he already has played 9 seasons in NFL. At this time he is suffering from ankle injury and body soreness. These injuries are at that extent that he will not be able to return as injuries would not allow him to do so.
Johnson shared his thoughts with his two teammates and friends Mathew Stafford and Stephan Tulloch, Johnson requested them to keep his decision a secret and so they did! When Calvin’s decision came forward after the season, a statement from Lions issued saying, “Johnson is evaluating his options for the future like many other players do in their career at this stage”
Lions said that they have deep respect for Calvin Johnson and they will also respect his decision whatever he decides, at least he is giving a thought to his decision on our request.
Johnson is one of the greatest players in American Football (NFL) and is respected among his teammates.
