How Much Sleep Do You Need To Stay Healthy For Babies And Adults

We have often heard that to lead a healthy life a person must sleep 6 to 8 hours daily and a child must sleep 8 to 12 hours to stay healthy. However, this healthy advice is no more valid.

As per the latest survey by the US-based National Sleep Foundation, the requirement to sleep varies from person to person and from age to age.

Some time a person of 65 years, if sleep for 5 hours that is enough for him and sometime a child requires to sleep more than 15 hours.

Scientists in their latest report has warned that consistently ignoring guidelines on healthy sleeping behavior can lead to obesity, cardiac diseases, cancer, diabetes and hormonal problems. The scientist has provided a chart on the number of hours a person shall sleep. The chart is made keeping in consideration the age of the person.

The new born babies till the age of 3 months should at least have 14 to 17 hours of sleep a day.

Similarly infants ranging from four months to 11 months need to have 10 to 15 hours sleep. This helps them to be more active, improves their immunity and they become less irritated.

The scientists’ further state that children aging from 1 to 8 year should at least sleep 10 hours a day as such sleep helps them to shake off lethargy. After 8 year children becomes habitual of sleeping at night and become less grumpy now a child must sleep maximum on 9 hours till the age of 17.

An adult ranging from 18 to 25 of years ideally should sleep for 8 hours but sleep of 6 hours is also good for them. Similarly adults ranging from 26 to 64 need to sleep at least 7 hours a day but 6 hours a day is also good for them as long they are at rest while sleeping and are being waken up after every thirty minutes.

Following such healthy habits extend one’s life and improves the health therefore we should not compromise on our health and should try to adopt such healthy ways.
