Shooting at Charleston Church Gunman Kills Nine in South Carolina
Charleston- South Carolina: A white unknown gunman stormed the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church which is the oldest AME church in the S.C., shot dead about nine people and ran away, authorities reported media.
The shooting incident occurred on Wednesday night at a historic African-American black church in downtown Charleston in South Carolina.
Mr. Greg Mullen who is the police chief in S.C.—addressed with news conference alongside mayor of Charleston on early Thursday morning, and called this incident a hate offence.
Mullen stated, “It is unfathomable that somebody in today’s society would walk into a church while they are having a prayer meeting and take their lives,”
According to police officials, the unknown gunman entered into the building of the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church nearly at 9 p.m. local time, when people were gathered for prayer meeting, opened fire and killed nine before running from the location.
The gunman shot fire so close people into the church and hence eight of them died at the scene, while two wounded seriously and were taken to the nearest Medical University of South Carolina but unfortunately one of the wounded lost his breath on the way to hospital, Mr. Mullen told media reporters.
Mr. Mullen also told that it was most terrible night of his career and called biggest regrettable, heartbreak incident of Charleston city ever.
When asked residents of the area about the incident and number of people who were inside the church for prayer meeting, they revealed nothing confirm even hospital officials also denied to release any information about the victims.
The Charleston’s Mayor, Mr. Joseph P. Riley Jr. has offered a reward to the city if someone help us to arrest the killer, while it said to be that the gunman was appeared to be 21-year-old young man with a clean-shaved face as well sporting a blue jeans, gray sweatshirt and Timberland boots.
The police has called him so dangerous man for the city and launched their search operation to take him into custody as soon as possible.
