Kabul: Afghan Lawmakers have rejected the first female nominee of Supreme Court on Wednesday which undermined all efforts of government trying to encourage women for high-status posts.

According to latest foreign news Afghan Lawmakers has rejected the nomination of first female Supreme Court member on Wednesday which is great setback to the efforts of Afghan government doing for the Afghan women to make them part of high-profile society.

Earlier, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani nominated Anisa Rasouli as member of Supreme Court’s nine-member bench who is already head of Afghan Woman Judges’ Association and juvenile court judge, the move has been disliked by several Islamic leaders who don’t want to promote women run culture.

Anisa Rasouli was the first nominee for the Supreme Court member in the history of Afghanistan but she has to get to approval from Afghan Parliament which unfortunately rejected the female candidate for Supreme Court’s nine-member bench.

Abdul Zahir Qadeer, Deputy Chairman of Afghan Parliament, has told after secret voting for female nominee that Anisa Rasouli could not get the vote of confidence to become a member of Supreme Court and they are seeking another candidate from the President to introduce for this position.

The female nominee has to get 97 votes out of 193 to get approval from Parliament to become the part of Court’s nine-member bench but she managed to receive only 88 votes which aren’t enough to set her for that position in Supreme Court.

On the contrary, lawmakers have approved another male candidate for Court’s nine-member bench and for the position of governor of the central bank.

A female MP Shukria Barakzai called it a disaster stated that President Asraf Ghani has to nominate a women for position to compensate this failure.

It is clear that Ghani has doing a lot to promote women for top positions and two female governors of Ghor and Daikundi already appointed.
