In Indian’s College Muslim Student Removes from Classroom for Wearing Hijab
New Delhi: St. Joseph’s Inter College in Lucknow Uttar Pradesh has raised controversy by barring a female student from attending class for wearing hijab.
St. Joseph’s Inter College has barred Farheen Fatima, a student of Class IX of the college, to let her enter into classroom because she was wearing a hijab, the district administration has ordered a probe against college and action would be taken if allegation proved.
Managing Director of St Joseph’s Anil Agarwal the Farheen has violated the dress code of school and If somebody wants to wear a religious dress or hijab, they should seek admission in a madrasa or some such school which allow such addition to the stated uniform.
Farheen Fatima has stated about her removal from the classroom that hijab in not permissible in the classes, teacher asked me to remove the scarf but when I made request to let me wear it he sent me to the library and when I back to class in next period he asked me to get out from the classroom.
Media reported that Farheen’s mother has filed a complaint about the “unconstitutional” action with the district magistrate next day who ordered inquiry against the complaint and asked to record principle statement to submit report on May, 19.
The college principle E. Emmanuel stated that they have their own uniform and didn’t allow any dresses in the class which mark the identification of any religion, they told them about to follow norms but they trying to defy the norms which we follow in the school.
Raj Shekhar, Lucknow district magistrate, gave a statement on the matter that they are inquiring the incident and asked for report from education department, if allegation is true then they must take action against the college.
