Paraguayan Girl, 10 Raped And Pregnant By Stepfather Sparks Outrage
Asuncion: Paraguayan authorities have denied the abortion of 10-year-old girl raped and pregnant by stepfather despite of girl’s mother plea for abortion to save the girl.
According to foreign news agency the plea of Paraguayan’s girl’s mother has been rejected by health authorities saying that it can be allowed only when pregnancy complications put her life in danger and also she is in 22nd week of pregnancy, it is now more dangerous for the life of girl.
Media reported that girl was admitted to hospital by her mother due to her stomach pain which doctors revealed as pregnancy after tests and fathered by her step father, who sexually abuse her in age of only 10 and pushed her into perilous state of pregnancy.
Paraguayan authorities have denied child abortion but with logical reason that at that stage of pregnancy abortion of baby could be more risky to her life while their denial sparked outraged in the region as human rights groups emphasized on psychological and health risks due to her young age.
Paraguay’s abortion denial violated international law and risked life of a young girl and to continue with an unwanted pregnancy is tantamount to torture abd carrying a baby without her will could cause health problems, deputy director at Amnesty International gave a statement.
The girl is living with two other children in Luque city with her mother and stepfather, her mother has reportedly accused her husband for having sexual abuse with her daughter in beginning of the year but no action has been taken by authorities.
She is receiving medical and psychological treatment at the Red Cross hospital in Asuncion while her stepfather is still at large while mother has charged for failing in her duty of care while also considering for another charge of being an accomplice in the rape of the girl.
