Carnival Float Accident Kills At Least 16 People in Haiti
On Tuesday, about 16 people were killed capital of Haiti after the Carnival float incident which took place when high-voltage wires hammered on a top of a musical group which became the only reason of crush people, the onlookers told media after the incident.
The large number of people was busy to celebrate their raucous annual celebration while walking in streets of downtown Port-au-Prince but suddenly an accident took place and sudden stampede was seen which caused of causalities.
The video of this event shows that Haitian Hip Hop music group Barikad Crew’s singer was busy performing on a truck but unfortunately shocked by the overhead power line when float was passing near the wires.
The cables also wrapped some other people those who were celebrating the event in streets.
The Haiti’s new Prime Minister Mr. Evans Paul announced the 16 confirm killings and over 73 injuries but his confirmation report is bit different than previous explained casualties.
On the other hand, Department of Civil Protection’s coordinator Nadia Lochard reported media that 20 people were died in this incident.
New PM of Haiti, Paul has announced three-day mourning for the destitute Caribbean country and the president of the nation Michel Martelly had visited the accidental location where so many people were gathered in the end of day.
The authorities have canceled the remaining ceremony of the Carnival events and also declared a state funeral and vigil on Saturday for victims.
The doctor who is treating the victim singer who known for his stage name Fantom and hit by electric wires, described to radio station Zenith-FM that the hip hop vocalist anticipated to survive.
Dr. Joel Desire who is a doctor at General Hospital demonstrated that the sudden stampede was the only reason of this incident and while parading causalities emerged.
