Bangladesh Ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia Locks In Office

Dhaka: Authorities locked opposition leader and ex-PM Khaleda Zia in her office on order of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed.

Foreign news agency reported that Police besieged ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in her office, following her planned rallies across the country on first anniversary of her party election boycott to mark ‘Democracy Killing Day’ on Monday.

According to media reports Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed has ordered to locked opposition leader ahead to nationwide protest on Monday, the day Ms Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) boycotted elections last year.

Police officials reported that Chief of BNP Khaleda Zia was not being detained only the security has been stepped up, she is not leaving the office on her own will.

On the other side BNP leader blamed that government has locked her forcibly at her office, stated that up to 400 BNP workers and senior leaders have been detained by police including party Information secretary.

The Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allies boycotted last year’s general elections over probable rigging and her opponent Sheikh Hasina Wajed was elected unopposed country’s prime minister.
