India Remain Controversial Guru Arrested
A court in northern India found that the self-styled guru Maharaj Rampal, who was arrested by police on Wednesday, will remain in custody until November 28.
The court canceled a bail option. Justice sought the controversial guru in connection with a murder that took place in 2006 and for contempt.
Rampal Maharaj was arrested at his ashram (place of meditation) in the state of Haryana after a week of protests by his supporters, who prevented was arrested.
On Tuesday, fierce fighting, which led to over 10,000 registered flee there. Several people charged Maharaj Rampal using his followers as human shields. Police said they had found the bodies of four women and a baby on the premises.
