Yemen Deadly Suicide Attack In Front Of Sanaa Police Academy
At least 20 people were killed and 23 others injured Wednesday in a suicide bombing in the center of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, controlled by Shiite militia movement Ansaruallah.
A suicide car bomb outside the police academy in Sanaa, Yemen , resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, Wednesday, January 8th. Twenty people have fallen as martyrs and at least 23 others were injured in a terrorist attack using a car bomb at the police academy entrance, said the governor of the city, Abdel Kader Hilal, the official news agency Saba. He added that it was an initial assessment of the attack prepared by the governor’s office in charge of public health. The agency Reuters was for its state of thirty dead and fifty wounded, based on police sources and statements of the residents.
An AFP correspondent who arrived at the scene shortly after the attack, described scenes of horror.The body shredded by explosio were mixed with debris vehicles. The attack, committed with a minibus, according to AFP, sought candidates from enrolling in the police academy, said the governor.
No one has claimed the operation immediately, but authorities suspect the Sunni extremist network Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which has carried out similar attacks in the past.
The attack comes as the Shiite Houthi rebels, also known Ansaruallah , took control of large areas in Yemen in recent months. The militia of his stronghold of Saada (north), launched in early a lightning offensive that allowed him to take control of the capital Sanaa on September 21 and then gradually expand its influence westward and central Yemen.
Their opponents consider them as auxiliaries of Shiite Iran, which the Houthis refute. The attacks against Shiites have multiplied in recent days in Yemen. The last Sunday targeted a gathering of Shia militiamen in Dhamar, south of Sanaa, killing four people. Another anti-Shiite attack , claimed by AQAP, had 49 dead on December 31 at Ibb in central Somalia . This attack committed by a suicide bomber targeted followers of the Shiite militia Ansaruallah attending a religious ceremony.
In addition, two tribal leaders and four members of their escort were killed Tuesday in an ambush by unidentified gunmen in the Baida area in central Yemen, according to Saba. The General People’s Congress, the party of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh said in a statement that the tribal leaders were part of its leaders and condemned the attack. He made the authorities responsible for relaxation of security measures that favor near-daily violence in the country.
