Shanghai Stampede at New Year’s Eve Left 35 Dead, 42 Injured
Shanghai: At least 35 people have been killed while 42 injured in a stampede at New Year’s Eve on Wednesday midnight.
According to foreign media Shanghai stampede left 35 dead and injured 42 at New Year’s celebrations, people gathered to welcome New Year rushed to Bund area.
China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that tragic incident happened when people in the area tried to grab coupon resembling dollars thrown from a rooftop, reportedly from the window of third floor of building while most of victims are student.
Officials stated that stampede occurred just before midnight around 11:35 local time which led to death of 35 while 42 were injured taken to Shanghai General Hospital immediately, the hospital has been crowded with relative of injured till now.
According to Social media pictures it can be seen that stampede spotted at Bund area which is notorious for congestion at main events, photos also showing people lying on the ground and ringed by police officers.
Police has surrounded the hospital and relatives of injured persons also not allowed to enter in hospital, police pushed the relatives outside the hospital even not revealed the identities of injured people.
