Suicide Bomb Attack Kills At least 16 And Injured Several People In Baghdad

Baghdad: At least 16 people have been killed and more than 40 people have been injured in a suicide bomb that took place in Baghdad, Iraq.

According to the reports the blast happened in Kadhamiyah district of Baghdad city located in the north of the city. This district constitutes mostly of Shia Muslim population. The attack happened during rush hour, killing at least 16 people and injuring more than 40 people.

A suicide bomb took place near the check post of Khadhamiyah. This neighborhood is home to one of holiest shrines of Shia Muslims and hundreds of people gather to offer their respect to the shrines of Imams of Shia Muslims. Since years Shia Muslims in Iraq has been under attack by Sunni perpetrated.

Initially no organisation accepted or claimed this attack, however in past few months ISIS (Islamic state of Syria and Iran), which is an off shoot of Al-Qaeeda has sent number of suicide bombers in the capital city of Iraq to target Shia Muslims of the country.

It was s second attack in a week on a Shia community in Iraq. Last Saturday 32 people were killed in a series of attacks that took place across the city.

Including a suicide bomb attack in which a bomber blew him in a restaurant in a Shia Muslim populated area, killing 22 people and wounding at least 50 citizens. More people died in attacks on two markets, one in the city centre and one in a south-west district.

Despite all these terrorism activities Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi ended 12 year old night curfew in the city. According to Prime Minister, he has lifted the curfew in order o normalise the life in Baghdad. Considering the current situation in the country Prime Minister has not re-imposed the curfew in the city.
