Philippines Footwear Factory Fire Kills At Least 72

Manila: Footwear factory ablaze killed at least 72 in the Philippine capital only few survived hospitalized immediately, authorities said Thursday.

Foreign media reported that shoe factory fire in a suburb of Philippines capital killed at least 72, police and rescue teams are putting out bodies from the gutted building. Only few were survived from the huge ablaze during rescue operation and all other were trapped leading to death.

National police Chief Leonardo Espina has stated in a press conference on Thursday that someone will absolutely be charged for the deaths, however it’s an accident but people died and we are investigating to clearly define what happened actually.

Local authorities have confirmed the deaths of 72 people while the actual figure of worker is still unclear to the official that how many people are in factory at time of fire but possibly there would be end of deaths and no one inside the factory.

The Police stated that fire started from sparks of welding equipment while repairing a broken gate which ignited flammable chemicals stored nearby the entrance.

According to survivors most of people trapped at second floor and iron grills on windows prohibited to escape as only few came outside as fire ablaze the whole factory within minutes while most of death possibly occurred due to black thick smoke of burning rubber and chemical.

The owner of building stated that 200 to 300 people were inside the building when it caught fire, however, mayor of the Valenzuela district, Rexlon Gatchalian told to media that death toll will not rise further as the number of missing matched to the bodies charred from the gutted building.

Survivors and family relatives of victims showed anger to the government and factory owners for least safety standards as people are unaware for escaping from accident, also nominal exit gates increased deaths.
